I think these are two separate problems: 1) using the Win7 wallpaper switcher probably will never work under eD because it is a function of the explorer desktop; 2) changing wallpaper not working under Win7 seems to be a matter of emergeCore not refreshing the background image when it is changed on the Display Properties (or whatever it is called under Win7).

| well, without emergecore running (or explorer) the wallpaper will switch just fine every half hour (as set by me in the Win7 wallpaper preferences). When emergecore is running, it will occasionally change but not on the regular basis specified in preferences. Does either emergecore or emergedesktop attempt to manage its own wallpaper by overlaying the system wallpaper? |

OK, I understand the wallpaper slideshow in Windows will not work with eD. But has anyone got a third party wallpaper manager w/ auto switching to work with eD? I've tried a few and none seem to work or suffer from the same issues as the default windows version. Is this something I'll have to live with? It's no deal breaker by a long shot and I can still change my wallpaper, was just curious is anyone else has had success with an alternate manager on Win7 Pro x64. _________________ 7 Pro x64 - eD 5.2.0.330 |

Ok, I've come to the conclusion theirs is an issue with eD and wallpaper changers. I've tried 5 different ones an all have the same issue, the inability to actively switch the wallpaper with any program. Any idea's what the conflict might be? _________________ 7 Pro x64 - eD 5.2.0.330 |

| If someone could please supply a link to a free wallpaper changer that works with XP, I'll try to track down the issue. |

As for #2, this does seem to be correct. so far, any version of Win 7 I've tried (and installed eD) this problem does exist. I normally make a shortcut to the desktop background window in the control panel so I can easily change my wallpaper. ("control desk.cpl,,@desktop" for Win 7 if anyone is interested). but as pointed out, it doesn't seem to work until you change a theme and then back, or restart emerge.
Using eD 5.0.0.213. Let me know if you need a guinea pig for any testing. |

I just found this nice cross-platform wallpaper switcher.
It works perfectly under XP Pro
Please try it under Windows 7 and report here

I can also confirm the issue. I now have a 64-bit Win7 development machine and once I get 5.1 out the door, I will look closer in to this issue. |

That's a negatory here. nice program, but no go. just like the other times, it'll change it, but does not refresh until you change themes.... |
