| Not sure if this is an isolated incident, but the "nwiz.exe /install" startup entry doesn't work under the emerge shell. My guess is the / screws it up. |

MeToo or ironhead will confirm this but ED has no problem dealing with "/" in the various registry "Run" keys (I currently have some of them). Instead, I'd say that nwiz.exe is no more accessible. I've had the problem recently, during setup of my last rig, when nVidia nForce wizard got lost with revisions of the Ethernet driver.

Yep. AiZ is correct. eD has no problems with startup items with parameters.
The problem is that Nvidia forgot to type the path to nwiz.exe and it is not in a path folder.
What is that supposed to do, anyway? I always delete that Nvidia crap... _________________

I have no idea what nwiz is, lol: I thought it might be 'installing' itself in the tray, but the tray icon still appears...
The fact remains however, that it worked in explorer but no longer works in emerge. I'm not here to fix nwiz, I'm just reporting a potential problem. |

How do you know it's not working? What is it supposed to do? How can you tell that it's not working and that it was working under Explorer?
I never noticed any problem when I deactive it from startup...
I wonder if it does anything at all or if it's just an old leftover... _________________

Oh right; an error message pops up: failed to execute nwiz /install
This has always happened, but I always installed emerge then nvidia drivers usually. This format round, I put off installing emerge for a week and that's how I found out it was emerge.
I actually have no idea what nwiz does. I know the system tray icon still works, and if I choose to use the ntune system profiles, it makes its own startup entry for applying profiles... |

If you had posted the error message first, you could have saved me some time...
That is not an eD error.
Explorer simply ignores missing files, eD reports them. And that is why you are getting this message.
I recommend that you use Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel
Look for the nwiz entry and either disable it or delete it. _________________

yeah I can do that from msconfig.
Huh, are you sure explorer just ignores invalid entries? Why would the latest version of nvidia drivers create an invalid entry?
Something doesnt add up... |

@Link: What version of eD are you running?
Additionally, can you please let me know where nwiz.exe is installed, what your %PATH% is set to, and if there is an nwiz.exe subkey in your registry in this key:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\
Thank you. |

4.2.0.2771
C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\nView\nwiz.exe
%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\WINDOWS\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0;c:\cygwin;C:\Program Files (x86)\IVT Corporation\BlueSoleil\Mobile;C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem
^so nvidia doesn't give an absolute path in the startup key and they don't specify it in the path either :/
nwiz does not have a subkey in that key, but I am under x64, which uses a lot of segregation in the registry; is there an x64 equivalent?
Maybe it was ignored as MeToo said, or maybe nvidia interfaces with explorer in some other way... it does have the ability to inject extra buttons and other in the title bar. |

I did some research on the web and apparently nwiz is supposed to allow the user to use a multimonitor setup using SLI.
I have no idea how can nwiz be executed without a specific path or without path being declared in either the Path variable or in the registry App Paths...
nwiz.exe used to be located in c:\windows\system32 (which is obviously on the Path). Could it be that Nvidia forgot that they changed the file location? _________________

| I know what nwiz does; it adds the window interface stuff. I do use that occaisionally, but it worked in emerge before without me manually running it... |
